Story line basis. -
After Batista beat John Cena over the border POS, came out and demanded a rematch. General Manger Bret Hart said Batista would have a match with Cena in a match against the number one match with Randy Orton to earn. Batista refused to fight for by his wounds, and as Hart said that since Batista forfeited which meant that Randy Orton would be the job in Fatal 4 Way Match for getting the PPV of the WWE title. A furious finish Batista WWE, he said.

Real reason -
Batista decided by the WWE to pursue a career in MMA. Batista said he was tired of the direction of the WWE and had to leave. He said he was not the kind of grew up watching the fight and was not the product that had always enjoyed.
